Totally agree. And today I heard the good news about Sebastian Coates. This is getting better and better.
Of course I have been impressed by the Man x2.
But I think we will be up there, giving them a hard time.

Carroll adds something different and against the tall and strong Bolton defence (Cahill, Knight and Robinson), he probably wouldn't have been as effective as he was against Arsenal's relatively weaker defence. Against Arsenal, he clearly tired their defence out but Bolton's defence could have tired him out. Anyway, the more options the better as you say. This is just the start of the season, injuries and fatigue could hit at any point. Watching the game yesterday, you would never have guessed we were missing Gerrard, Johnson, Meireles...

Read somewhere that this is the first time Liverpool wins when Skrtel scores. This might truly be the season of magic...
The performance yesterday was the most solid and creative I've seen from them since I can't remember when. Good that Kenny choose not to play Carroll. They gain in speed.
And this says something about the quality of the players we've hardly used yet. Hope they keep there gun powder dry. They will be much needed.

Comment on Why Lucas is needed ahead of the rest of Liverpool’s midfield army by joshua

Rob - there are a lot of people who don't think Lucas will start ahead of the rest of the midfield players and Adam, who naturally plays in a deeper position compared to the rest of the midfielders (bar Lucas), has been tipped to play in the 'steering wheel' role instead of Lucas. I therefore compared Lucas and Adam to show that they actually have very different styles of play. Personally I see them playing together quite a lot, with Lucas providing him a bit of freedom to go forward.

About using stats from just one game - I would have loved to have used stats from a whole season but I don't have access to any. I did the best with the resources I had and chose the two games as the most even combination.

I feel that although your assessment of Lucas is spot on, I think it is unfair that you compare him and Adam. They are not the same type of player. Lucas, as you say, looks to dominate a midfield, cleverly breaking down play and facilitating the creativity of others. Adam is the creativity, although he does not necessarily push forward he is a playmaker nonethelesss. I also think the idea of using stats from one game to compare the two as extremely biased, one game does not make the man. Anyway coming into the new season should we not ebing support to all of the players rather than trying to draw comparison between them. All that matters as those who are given the nod to play, play for the shirt and know what it means to wear the liverbird across their chest.

[...] Why Lucas is needed ahead of the rest of Liverpool’s midfield army “I was at Anfield on Saturday for the final warm up match before the 2011-2012 Premier League season begins. It was a competent win against a good Valencia side. Agger was my man of the match yet others such as Downing impressed. Lucas was fantastic when he came on with a patient, intelligent and exciting performance within just 45 minutes of playing time – surprisingly sharp considering he’s only just back at training after his break following Brazil’s Copa America exit.” Joshua Kearney [...]
